Cascade Thrust Reverser

Goodrich approached Stark/AMI with an interesting problem: calculate accurate loads profiles on a cascade thrust reverser in three positions and at three throttle settings for the Mitsubishi Regional Jet, all within a small time frame.  Not only did this pose a difficult CFD challenge, it also required three extremely detailed and hard to create grids.

Stark/AMI engineers developed an innovative solution to automatically generate not only the grids around the cascade, but the cascade blades themselves.  When run with Metacomp Technology’s CFD++ Navier-Stokes code on our computer cluster, excellent results were generated in several days, instead of a few weeks.

Our CFD results were later validated with test data, at a cost well below what a powered wind tunnel model and test.
